I started my weight shedding journey at 324 pounds, with various issues such as diabetes, joint pain, and border line hypertension, to name a few. I’ve been overweight most of my life, however, that was by far the heaviest I’d ever been. I’ve been on countless diets throughout my life, which included calorie counting, boxed foods, physician-based programs and internet spawn diets. However, I’ve never been able to make any life-altering changes. Thus the diet rollercoaster continued. The pound lost always returned with friends.
I went to my chiropractor one day, only to discover she was not in and her husband was covering for her. After the adjustment he began to discuss my weight with me. He listed the various issues that are linked to obesity. As he talked, I was truly touched and surprised at his level of caring and concern, this coming from somebody who didn’t know me. He didn’t say anything I hadn’t heard before, but it was the level of genuine concern and urgency that he placed on the issue. Dr. Coletti’s concern and compassion pushed me to action, which has changed my life for the better.
Dr. Lara’s weight management program was full of educational information such as what foods to eat, what to avoid, portion size and recommended supplements. The program provided accountability via the weekly weigh ins. The Clearwater staff was supportive, encouraging, and uplifting - awesome job! In conjunction with Dr. Lara’s weight management program, I began the Virtual Gastric Band program with Debbie Lane. During the program, Debbie was able to get to the root of the problem. To her credit, that was not easy because I was not the ideal patient. You see, my first response to many questions was, “I don’t know,” which was true at the time. However, that wasn’t much help in finding the root cause of my issues. Nevertheless, Debbie peeled away layer after layer, and through our discussions the “I don’t knows” changed to understanding and sound answers. This led to us discussing ways to handle the identified issues.
Once the eating was under control, we moved to exercise. I’d never been able to sustain an exercise program in the past. As a result of our session, I started Zumba in June 2013. I was still considerably overweight, so the first 10 minutes nearly killed me. However, I kept listening to the audios and I continued to go to Zumba, and within a very short time I was hooked. The pounds continue to drop and I continue to attend Zumba. This journey has led me to discover my passion for life. In November 2013, I completed training to become a health coach. In December 2013, I became a licensed Zumba instructor. My goal is to help others get fit and shed unwanted pounds. I left my job in January 2014, and I’ve dedicated my life to helping others shed excess pounds and get fit. I’ve shed 214 lbs and counting. I’m still on the journey from obesity to better health and peace.
Thank you Dr. Coletti, Dr. Lara, and Debbie Lane! What a life-altering experience.
