Cucumber Mint Spa Water

Dr. Lara has said it plainly: cucumber, lemon, and mint are his favorite flavorings for water. This spa water takes that combination seriously. Fresh cucumber slices infuse the water with a clean, cool taste. Mint adds brightness. Lemon rounds it out with just enough citrus to make every glass feel intentional rather than plain.

April in Florida means the heat is back. Staying well-hydrated is non-negotiable on any weight loss program — and this makes that easier. When your water tastes this good, you drink more of it. No sugar, no artificial flavoring, nothing processed. Just water that actually feels like a treat.

Make a pitcher in the morning and it's ready by lunch. The longer it sits, the better it gets.

Ingredients

  • 2 quarts (8 cups) cold filtered water
  • 1 English cucumber, thinly sliced (no need to peel)
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 12–15 fresh mint leaves
  • Ice for serving
  • Optional: 4–5 fresh basil leaves for extra herbal depth

Directions

  1. Step 1: Prepare the pitcher. Use a large glass pitcher or mason jar — at least 2-quart capacity. Glass shows off the colors and keeps the flavors cleaner than plastic.
  2. Step 2: Prep the ingredients. Wash cucumber and lemon thoroughly. Slice cucumber into 1/4-inch rounds. Slice lemon into thin rounds and remove any seeds. Gently tear or bruise the mint leaves between your fingers before adding — this releases the essential oils and dramatically intensifies the flavor.
  3. Step 3: Layer and fill. Add cucumber slices, lemon rounds, and torn mint leaves (and basil if using) to the pitcher. Pour cold filtered water over everything. Stir gently once to distribute.
  4. Step 4: Chill. Refrigerate 1–2 hours minimum before serving. Two hours is the sweet spot — long enough for the flavors to infuse fully, before the cucumber starts to get soft. For a stronger flavor, let it go up to 4 hours.
  5. Step 5: Serve. Pour over ice. Keep the cucumber and mint in the pitcher as you serve — they continue infusing. Refill the pitcher with fresh water once or twice before replacing the produce (usually after about 24 hours).

Make-Ahead & Storage

Make a fresh batch every 24–36 hours. After that, the cucumber softens and the mint starts to lose its brightness. Store in the refrigerator. Do not freeze — the cucumber texture breaks down.

Variations

  • Cucumber-lime: Swap lemon for lime and add a few fresh cilantro leaves for a Mexican-inspired spa water.
  • Cucumber-ginger: Add 3–4 thin slices of fresh ginger root with the cucumber for digestive support and a warm background note.
  • Cucumber-rosemary: Replace mint with a sprig of fresh rosemary for a more herbal, sophisticated flavor.
